A section of Vasse Highway west of Nannup has been widened from seven metres to nine metres to include a sealed shoulder surface improving road surface conditions for South-West motorists.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the State Government had invested $500,000 on enhancing a 2.3 kilometre stretch of the Vasse Highway, in the South-West region.

Mr Nalder said Vasse Highway was an important transport route, linking Nannup and Busselton.

"It is popular with tourists and provides a scenic drive through our magnificent forests for most of its length," he said.

"This upgrade will significantly improve safety for all road users by ultimately reducing the potential and severity of crashes along the highway."

The Minister said the works were an important part of the State Government's commitment to improving road safety and were managed by Main Roads' South West Regional Office.

The upgrade was completed last month by one of Main Roads' Integrated Service Agreement providers, Fulton Hogan.
