Victoria Park wastewater projects completed
A four-year upgrade of key wastewater infrastructure has been completed in Armagh Street, Victoria Park, ensuring safe and reliable water services for the area and catering for projected growth over the next 20 years.
Water Minister Bill Marmion said the project included construction of a new, underground overflow storage tank at McCallum Park as well as upgrades to the Hordern Street and Armagh Street pumping stations.
Mr Marmion said the Armagh Street projects would cater for the projected 21 per cent growth in Victoria Park's population during the next 20 years.
"The State Government is very pleased to have completed this major project because, among other features, it has put in place contingency infrastructure should any overflows occur," he said.
"This significantly reduces the chance of wastewater overflowing into the environment."
A multi-purpose sports court was built over the underground tank as part of the project, providing a new leisure facility within McCallum Park.
"McCallum Park is one of the biggest open spaces in the town, and the banks of the Swan River are a favourite recreational spot for locals and visitors," the Minister said.
Recent additional improvements to surrounding infrastructure included an upgrade to the Claisebrook to Armagh Street Pressure Main and minor upgrades to the Armagh Street Pressure Main. A further upgrade to this pressure main is scheduled for 2018-19.
