Minister presents cheque to Volunteering WA
Funding provided through a Lotterywest grant
Seniors and Volunteering Minister Robyn McSweeney today presented a cheque for $75,500 to Volunteering WA which will be used for activities during the upcoming National Volunteer Week.
"Volunteers are valued by their communities and held in high esteem, so it is with great pleasure I present this cheque to Volunteering WA," Mrs McSweeney said.
"I understand these funds will go towards programs and activities associated with National Volunteer Week next month which is an excellent way to acknowledge the hard and valuable work volunteers do in our communities.
"As the Minister for Seniors and Volunteering I am aware of the vital role volunteers play in WA. Last year it is estimated WA volunteers contributed up to 288 million hours of volunteering, worth up to $9.4billion to the State's economy."
Volunteering WA's chief executive Mara Basanovic gratefully received the cheque at the organisation's headquarters in West Perth, and the money will support National Volunteer Week events across the State.
The Department for Communities provides annual funding to Volunteering WA to support programs including one which encourages young people to take an active role as a volunteer in their community.
