WA boating facilities receive funding
- About $5.49 million for improved recreational boating facilities throughout WA
RBFS benefits from $20 million injection from Royalties for Regions
Better boat ramps, more parking and a fish cleaning station are among State Government grants worth $5.49 million for improvements to recreational boating facilities throughout Western Australia.
Announcing the latest grants under the Recreational Boating Facilities Scheme (RBFS) in the Abrolhos today, Transport Minister Dean Nalder said 21 projects from Port Hedland to Denmark would be funded.
"The scheme fosters partnerships with local governments and authorities and is extremely successful in helping meet the needs of WA's growing boating community," Mr Nalder said.
The scheme is managed by the Department of Transport and provides up to 75 per cent of funding for new or improved facilities which benefit the recreational boating public.
Eligible authorities can also apply for planning grants which result in detailed plans, cost estimates and approvals for public recreational boating facilities.
These latest projects are funded by the remainder of the $20 million investment through the State Government's Royalties for Regions program.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said boat owners outside the metropolitan area would benefit most from the funding with the majority of projects located in regional WA.
"The City of Karratha received the largest allocation, with a $1.5 million grant for an upgrade of the Back Beach boating facility," Mr Redman said.
"It is pleasing to see Royalties for Regions contributing to improving recreational boating facilities for people living in our State's regional areas."
