WA film success attracts big stars
- $7.5million Lotterywest grant for 2013-14 to boost WA screen industry
Kill Me Three Times filmed entirely in Western Australia
Four films were produced in WA last year - a record high
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day has visited the set of Western Australian film, Kill Me Three Times, to present ScreenWest with $7.5million from Lotterywest.
The movie is being filmed at Hillarys, the Sunset Hospital site in Dalkeith, Lancelin and the South-West.
Kill Me Three Times stars English actor, Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz), and Australian actor, Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Warm Bodies).
The movie is being directed by Kriv Stenders, famous for the Australian hit, Red Dog.
Mr Day said Lotterywest's support for the local film industry was generating millions of dollars for the State.
"Last financial year, Lotterywest contributed $7.35million in funding which leveraged nearly $60million in production funding. It's expected that this year's grant will generate a similar figure," he said.
"Kill Me Three Times is just one example of a local screen project attracting interest at home and abroad. In the past year, several WA films won acclaim at international film festivals, including Aboriginal Drama Satellite Boy and surfing feature film Drift.
"The fact that film and television projects such as these can be created and shown to national and international audiences confirms the strength and talent of WA's film industry."
Kill Me Three Times is a thriller set in the Australian surfing town of Eagle's Nest and follows a young woman who is the thread that binds three tales of murder, blackmail and revenge.
The Minister said the calibre of actors and crew assembled for Kill Me Three Times highlighted the strength of WA's film industry.
"This film has attracted global stars Simon Pegg, Teresa Palmer, Sullivan Stapleton and Bryan Brown to WA," he said.
"You cannot put a price on this exposure and the benefits it provides the State through tourism, small business and production. Simon Pegg tweeted continuously about his recent visit to Perth and he has more than 3.6 million followers."
