Winners take bite out of history during CHOGM
- Lucky winners and celebrities to enjoy exclusive and unique event
- Renowned chef Hadleigh Troy has reinvented past State banquets
- Premium quality WA produce to be used in line with Buy West Eat Best
Nine lucky West Australians will join celebrity guests and have the opportunity to be themselves treated like Commonwealth Heads of Government at a lunch inspired by past State banquet menus.
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said the State Records Office's Eating the Archives - to be held today in the Perth Cultural Centre as part of the Commonwealth Festival Perth - is a unique event to be held alongside CHOGM 2011.
"Eating the Archives is a new way to breathe life into the history held in the State's records," Mr Day said.
"Restaurant Amuse chef Hadleigh Troy has trawled the archives in search of menus and records of past State banquets, garden parties, and dinners to create a menu in honour of these occasions from the last century.
"The luncheon also celebrates WA produce and will include modern twists on old favourites such as prawn cocktail; turkey and ham; clear soup with marron; saddle of lamb; asparagus on toast; and Strawberries Romanoff."
The nine winners are: Martina Bovell (Mount Claremont); Lee Swanson (Atwell); Julie Szczurowski (Shenton Park); Olivia Di Florio (Wattle Grove); Ross Crockett (Mosman Park); Ian Stone (Duncraig); Luke Burns (Dudley Park); Michael Trown (Leederville); and Michael Clynk (Alfred Cove).
They will join Western Australian celebrities, including former Fremantle Dockers captain Peter Bell; Channel Ten's Narelda Jacobs; comedian Andrea Gibbs; Eskimo Joe singer Kav Temperley; actor Sam Longley; and Dr Fiona Stanley, to attend the lunch with master of ceremonies Verity James.
The Department of Agriculture and Food partnered with the State Records Office to ensure premium quality WA produce promoted the Buy West Eat Best message.
