Winners to join celebrities and eat the archives
- Nine people have won a seat at the Eating the Archives table
- Winners to join celebrities including Peter Bell and Kav Temperley
- Chef Hadleigh Troy to reinterpret historic State Banquet menus
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day today announced the names of those who, with their guests, will be sitting at the table for the special event Eating the Archives to be held as part of the Commonwealth Festival Perth 2011.
Mr Day said more than 1,300 people entered the online lottery run through the State Records Office of Western Australia (SRO) website and the keen interest showed the public enthusiasm for the event and the Commonwealth Festival as a whole.
"While international dignitaries and Heads of State are attending CHOGM, these lucky people of Perth will be eating elaborate culinary interpretations of historic State Banquets prepared by celebrated chef Hadleigh Troy of Restaurant Amuse," he said.
"The winners will be sitting at the table in the Perth Cultural Centre - People's Space with celebrity guests including former Fremantle Dockers captain Peter Bell, Eskimo Joe singer Kav Temperley and Fiona Stanley, who we all know from her ground-breaking work in the health sector.
"State Archivist Cathrin Cassarchis and master of ceremonies Verity James will ensure this is no ordinary lunch."
The Minister said there would be 30 people sitting at the table for Eating the Archives but the event would be a public spectacle and urged everyone to come and see it.
"I hope this event encourages people to engage with the State archives collection in a way that we can all relate to - through food," he said.
The Commonwealth Festival Perth will be held from October 23-30 with the People's Space open from October 26-29 and is supported by the Department of Culture and the Arts and Lotterywest.
