Women go global: Businesswomen look to Asia
- Speaker series in Perth inspires West Australian businesswomen
Capitalising on the growing business opportunities with China and India was the focus of a State Government supported event for businesswomen in Perth today.
Speaking at the Women in Global Business Unlocking China and India speaker series event, Women's Interests Minister Liza Harvey said Western Australian women were increasingly looking to become their own boss.
"More and more women in Western Australia are turning to entrepreneurship as they seek greater flexibility in time management and the potential for financial independence," Mrs Harvey said.
"The State Government supports businesswomen to explore the possibilities of international trade and with WA's proximity to Asia. It makes good sense for women to look to those markets."
The Women in Global Business speaker series enables WA's businesswomen to gain significant knowledge and insight into how to make their mark on the international business stage. Among the speakers at today's event were Liu Bing, Acting Senior Trade Commissioner, Shanghai and Dr Vanessa Guthrie, managing director of Toro Energy Limited.
The State Government, through the Department of Local Government and Communities (DLGC), provides a number of initiatives to maximise opportunities for women's leadership and economic independence.
This includes the online resource Being Board Ready, which encourages women into leadership roles.
State Government partnerships with Women in Mining WA and Women in Technology WA, also provide opportunities for women to meet and learn from experienced women in those industries.
The event was a partnership with Women in Global Business, an Australian, State and Territory Government initiative supported by the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade).
The DLGC supported regional women to attend the event, with event fee sponsorships.
