Work of art for Northam Senior High School
$10 million new arts centre and administration building
Made possible by Royalties for Regions
Historic Northam Senior High School has received a facelift with a new arts centre and administration building.
Education Minister Peter Collier said the expansion had modernised the front of the school while extending opportunities for students studying drama and art.
"The arts centre is being used not only for theatre arts but also for fine arts, ceramics and instrumental music programs," Mr Collier said.
It includes a dance studio, music room, and ceramics and drawing studio, while the existing visual arts area was refurbished and new playing courts built.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said students in the Northam district would now have access to a more creative learning environment that would enhance their opportunities in education.
"The State Government's Royalties for Regions program is equipping regional schools to provide students with a quality education, helping to create a more sustainable future for regional youth," Mr Redman said.
Northam Senior High School has a long and proud history as Western Australia's oldest senior high school outside the metropolitan area. The school is a mix of heritage and modern buildings.
