Work is set to start on an infrastructure improvement package worth almost $1million in Koondoola.

Planning Minister John Day said the State Government-funded work would kick-start the broader regeneration of the area.

"The work includes the undergrounding of power lines, road safety measures and upgrades to local parks, with all work to be completed this financial year," Mr Day said.

"A total of $599,000 will be spent on undergrounding the power lines along Koondoola Avenue, between Burbridge Avenue and Meldrum Way, adjacent to the neighbourhood centre.

"At the request of the City of Wanneroo, I have also allocated a further $314,000 to improve the intersection of Butterworth Avenue and Beach Road.

"There have been a number of traffic accidents there, including a recent fatality, and the community is understandably concerned about safety at this intersection.

"The remaining $74,000 will be spent on upgrades to recreational equipment within Butterworth Reserve.

"These improvements will offer long term benefits for the public and act as a catalyst for the wider revitalisation of Koondoola."

The Minister said he was pleased the Liberal-National Government had progressed the project, which stalled under the previous Labor government.

"When the change of government occurred in September 2008, only $14,000 of $1million allocated for the Koondoola work had been spent, so three and a half years went by without much being achieved," he said.

"We have worked through a number of issues to ensure this project is completed in the best way possible."
