Wyndham Hospital moves closer to refurbishment
The upgrade to Wyndham Hospital is now one step closer with the first stage of the works put out to tender.
Health Minister Dr Kim Hames said medical staff and patients would benefit from enhanced facilities once the refurbishment was completed.
"As part of the refurbishment, emergency treatment bays and doctors' consultation rooms will be upgraded and new patient rooms and ensuites will be constructed," Dr Hames said.
"This first stage of works will include an upgrade to safety and fire services equipment such as tanks, pumps and the pump house.
"We acknowledge the importance of the hospital to the Wyndham community and have encouraged local community representatives to have a say in the refurbishment of the hospital."
A community-based project working group led by local architect Steve Irvine has been formed to work with hospital staff and the design team to set design parameters for the refurbishment.
It is expected that the refurbishment will take between six and eight months to complete.
The Minister said the upgrade of the Wyndham Hospital would ensure that it remained a valuable asset to the community.
"As the new Health Minister, I want to assure the community that the Barnett Government is committed to improving health services throughout regional Western Australia," he said.
