Specialist classrooms are among the new cutting-edge facilities at Carine Senior High School that were officially opened by Education Minister Peter Collier today.
The $4.96million building will support the school as it welcomes year 7 students next year. It includes five classrooms, a science laboratory, two areas for activities and projects, staff study area, stores, and staff and student toilets.
The building is among 29 projects to be completed to cater for extra students when year 7 students move to secondary school for the first time in 2015.
Mr Collier said the facilities at Carine Senior High School would give year 7 students the specialist subject teaching best suited for the new Australian Curriculum.
"The move of year 7 to secondary school aligns with the introduction of the Australian Curriculum which has more in-depth content in each subject and higher expectations about the knowledge and skills that students need," he said.
"The new facilities will cater for the high population growth in the Carine area and the year 7 students who will learn the new curriculum in multipurpose and specialist rooms, including specialist science rooms.
"This adds to the already impressive facilities at Carine Senior High School which include a performing arts centre, swimming pool, basketball courts, two ovals, cricket nets and tennis courts."
