Busselton Health Campus nears completion

Premier Colin Barnett today visited the $120million Busselton Health Campus and said he was impressed with the progress of the project, due to be completed later this year.

"Once complete, people in the South-West will have access to a new health campus that will provide the advanced features and technology you'd expect to find in contemporary metropolitan hospitals," Mr Barnett said.

The health campus, which will contain both a hospital and community-based services, is being built on the site of the existing Busselton Hospital, which will be demolished shortly after the relocation of services.

"The new campus will provide 84 beds and 15 emergency department spaces, a significant increase on the 54 beds and 11 emergency department spaces in the existing hospital," the Premier said.

"The extra beds will help reduce the number of patients needing to travel further for care and will support the delivery of services in smaller health facilities across the South-West, in particular Margaret River Hospital and the Augusta Multipurpose Service.

"Other enhancements include two operating theatres and a procedure room, six outpatient consulting rooms - compared with the one currently in place - and a six-chair dental clinic to replace the present two-chair facility."

Mr Barnett acknowledged the hard work of all those involved in the hospital's redevelopment. He said the project team was currently arranging for more than 8,300 items of equipment to be moved into the new building after construction is completed.

The relocation of services will occur in phases from December to February to ensure there is continuity of health-care amenities over the Christmas period.
