Heavy vehicle registration stickers to be phased out
Cessation of heavy vehicle registration stickers is another red tape reduction initiative by the State Government
Significant gains in productivity for industry and the Government
Registration stickers for heavy vehicles will be phased out as part of another red tape reduction initiative announced today by Transport Minister Dean Nalder.
Mr Nalder said the phasing out of the stickers would see cost and time savings for industry and the State Government.
Through DoTDirect - a range of online tools to give Department of Transport customers instant access to everyday transactions - customers can access information about their heavy vehicle's registration anytime, anywhere.
"By providing the heavy vehicle industry with a more convenient and effective system that negates the need for registration stickers, we are saving them time and money," he said.
The Department of Transport has undergone consultation with a variety of industry groups and stakeholders, including WA Police and Main Roads WA, and ascertained there would be minimal impact on enforcement.
"To help enforcement agencies in other States, following the removal of heavy vehicle registration stickers, it is recommended drivers carry registration papers when travelling interstate," the Minister said.
Heavy vehicles covered by the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme will still receive registration stickers.
It is expected the work to cease issuing Heavy Vehicle Certificate of Registration (HVCR) stickers to Western Australian-registered heavy vehicles will be completed by mid-2016.
Fact File
Based on estimates of 248,000 heavy vehicle registrations a year, it is anticipated abolishing HVCR stickers will save thousands of hours of industry time
It is estimated the ongoing savings to Government from abolishing HVCR stickers could be more than $200,000 per annum, depending on the extent to which payment receipts would still be issued by post
Driver and Vehicle Services administer the Federal Interstate Registration Scheme, an alternative to State-based registration for heavy vehicles, on behalf of the Australian Government
