Canning Vale College's impressive new senior school facilities were officially opened today by Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan.
Mr McGowan said the State Government had spent $17.6million to complete the second stage of Canning Vale College to provide a dedicated senior school.
"This year, Canning Vale College has its first group of Year 12 students who are enjoying this milestone by learning in world-class facilities," he said.
"The new facilities include a two-storey senior school block with 14 classrooms, six seminar rooms, six science laboratories, four information technology laboratories, a tiered auditorium, media laboratory with editing suites, staff areas, reception and toilets.
"The school also boasts a new design and technology centre, industrial kitchen, graphic arts studio and a fully-equipped gymnasium including a dance studio and tennis courts."
The Minister said that Canning Vale College was among just 65 schools around the world nominated last year for an international award for exemplary design of educational facilities.
"Canning Vale College, on Dumbarton Road, is a beautifully planned school that provides fantastic learning opportunities for its 923 students from Years Eight to 12," he said.
The stage two facilities were funded by the Western Australian and Australian Governments.
Mr McGowan said the Carpenter Government was using the State's strong economy to provide better education facilities for young Western Australians.
"At the last election, we promised to build 39 new schools worth $400million, spend $300million to upgrade existing schools and spend another $300million on school maintenance work," he said.
"We have already built, planned or announced 41 new schools, including 30 new primary schools and 11 new secondary schools."
