Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan today announced a $20million primary school would be built in the booming southern suburb of Success.
Mr McGowan said Success Primary School was expected to open in 2009 and would accomodate 300 mainstream students from kindergarten to Year Seven.
"It will also cater for 40 education support students, including students from Kim Beazley School in White Gum Valley," he said.
"School facilities will include 13 classrooms, a music room, library, a specialist arts and craft room, hard courts, a covered assembly area and a canteen."
Cockburn MLA Fran Logan said the school would also include an education support learning area for those students with special needs.
"This area will have four teaching areas, a therapy pool and a therapy gymnasium, as well as an early childhood facility," he said.
"Success Primary School will ease pressure on nearby Harmony Primary School by accommodating students who reside in Atwell, Banjup and Success."
Mr McGowan said the school had been designed to allow for easy movement of wheelchairs and specialist equipment.
"The school's education support facilities will provide an enhanced learning environment and better educational opportunities for Kim Beazley School primary students," he said.
Mr McGowan said the Carpenter Government was using its strong economy to provide better education facilities to all Western Australians.
"At the last election we promised to build 39 new schools worth $400million, spend $300million to upgrade existing schools and spend another $300million for school maintenance work.
"We have already built, planned or announced 38 new schools; 26 new primary schools and 12 new secondary schools."
The school will be located between Meridian Street, Wentworth Parade and Columbus Loop.
MPS Architects have been appointed to design the new school.
Part of the school's funding will come from the Federal Government's Capital Grants program.
