Acting Regional Development Minister Kim Chance today announced that Lactanz, a New Zealand investment group of dairy farmers, had received a cheque for $220,000 to support their plans to establish a new dairy farm at Lake Jasper.
The grant was provided through the State Government's Regional Headworks Program and would assist with the cost of providing suitable power supply to the property.
Mr Chance said the owners of Lactanz had invested $18million into three South-West dairy farms over the last three years and would supply about 15 million litres of milk this year.
"The Carpenter Government is keen to support appropriate agricultural production within the regions and the introduction of a cattle dairy farm covering about 280ha is a significant economic achievement for the Nannup area," he said.
The Lake Jasper farm would be the fourth farm in the Lactanz South-West portfolio and would be developed to manage 1,500-2,000 dairy cows.
Mr Chance said establishment of the new farm would bring three families into the region and provide employment for a further three contractors.
"Since 2002, Lactanz has spent more than $8million on supplies and services in the development of its farms. Most of this expenditure has been directed to regional businesses," Mr Chance said.
