'How to guide' to improve your home and help the environment

Home renovators who want to do the right thing by the environment and save money now have an easy guide to sustainable home improvements.

Home renovators who want to do the right thing by the environment and save money now have an easy guide to sustainable home improvements.

Housing and Works Minister Michelle Roberts today launched the 'Your  Home Renovators Guide', at the Master Builders Association Building and Home Improvements Show.

"'Your Home Renovator's Guide' is a useful and practical resource for renovators, demonstrating ways they can incorporate sustainable design and product features into their homes," Mrs Roberts said.

The guide has been developed by the Australian Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, along with State Government building and environment agencies across Australia, including Western Australia's Department of Housing and Works.

"Including sustainability features and design as part of a renovation will help home owners save money on energy and water bills," the Minister said.

Mrs Roberts said the guide would also be a valuable resource for the building industry and government agencies.

"Architects, builders and landscapers are among the many professionals who can use the guide's briefing templates to consult with their clients and help them choose more sustainable renovation options," she said.

The Minister said the guide included tips and checklists to ensure sustainable opportunities were recognised before and during home improvements, to help reduce environmental impact.

"I recommend this guide to anyone who wants to improve their lifestyle and help the environment at the same time," Mrs Roberts said.

'Your Home Renovator's Guide' will be available from the Department of Housing and Works stand at the Master Builders Association Building and Home Improvements Show.
