More than 60,000 people are expected to flock to this weekend's action sports lifestyle event - the Gravity Games H20.
Tourism Minister Sheila McHale today welcomed the 80 elite athletes taking part and wished them the best of luck.
"This is a unique event, offering action sports on water and land and gives spectators a fantastic choice of high tempo sports to watch," Ms McHale said.
"And the stakes are high with $135,000 in prize money on offer across three medal events of wakeboarding, thundercats and jetski racing.
"The games also include exhibition events such as skate, BMX and in-line skating, freestyle motocross and freestyle mountain bike trials.
"With free concerts, paintballing and a live radio broadcast this is an exciting event for all ages, but especially young people."
The Minister said footage from the games would be distributed to national and international broadcasters and be seen by millions in Europe, Asia, UK, North America, South America, the Middle East, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.
"Gravity Games H20 helps market WA as a tourist destination to the world, but in particular youth and adventure travellers," Ms McHale said.
"With our beautiful Swan River and city skyline as a backdrop, the exposure the State receives in international media is priceless."
The Gravity Games H20 is the only event of its kind in Australia and was secured by EventsCorp.
The event, in McCallum Park, is free to the public and will take place 9am to 6pm from today (Friday) to Sunday.
