Australia's biggest free fun park opens in Donnybrook
The Easter long weekend will be even sweeter for children in the South-West, with Australia's biggest free fun park opening its doors to a world of adventure and excitement.
While officially opening the Donnybrook Apple Fun Park today, South-West Minister Mark McGowan said locals young and old would enjoy the facility; which would also be a fantastic tourist attraction.
"Because of the generosity of a Donnybrook family and the local council, people from down the road, up the highway and across the globe will flock to the Apple Fun Park," Mr McGowan said.
"This park was the brainchild of a local family, who designed and researched the project and then donated almost $700,000 to make it happen.
"They wish to remain anonymous, despite this extraordinarily generous contribution to their community.
"The Shire of Donnybrook Balingup also contributed $150,000 to the project, which is a very large sum for a small country shire."
Collie-Wellington MLA Mick Murray said Donnybrook had come a long way in recent years and had become a very attractive place to live and visit.
"The park has the latest playground equipment including towers, slides, bridges, climbing apparatus, electric barbecues, shelters, tables and seating," Mr Murray said.
"In a time when computer games keep children indoors for hours, it is great to have such a healthy alternative for all ages."
Mr McGowan said the Apple Fun Park was not only a wonderful play area for kids, but a great family area where parents could relax and watch their children play in safety.
"It is a first-class facility that will be the envy of many towns," he said.
"I would like to congratulate and thank the Donnybrook community, businesses and volunteers for their contribution in creating this wonderful park."
