15/12/07
The State Government will provide $69,500 towards a range of music, food and wine, youth, sporting and arts events planned for Pemberton and Manjimup and the entire South-West next year.
South-West Minister Mark McGowan announced the successful grant recipients at the Pemberton Visitors Centre on the weekend.
Mr McGowan said grants of up to $4,000, with another $2,000 for professional event co-ordination, were made available as part of the 2007-08 South-West Events Program.
"This annual program supports events that attract visitors to the South-West, have regional significance and provide a high quality experience," he said.
"The funding is especially helpful for community groups trying to get a new event off the ground.
"This year's recipients included the Manjimup Cherry Festival, the Pemberton Classic cycle event, Pemberton Autumn Festival and a Manjimup youth concert.
"It is exciting to see the range of events across the region, with a total of 28 events supported throughout the South-West.
"The number of activities seeking grant assistance is also an indication of how passionate local people are about their communities. There is always something to do in the South-West."
