Buswell continues campaign to cut services
2/6/06
Troy Buswell is continuing his 'less with less' campaign, criticising the State Tax Review Interim Report for seeking to balance tax cuts against the need to provide services.
In a media statement yesterday, Mr Buswell complained that the Interim Report 'continually highlights that calls for tax cuts needed to be balanced against community calls for Government service provisions'.
"Troy Buswell stands for less money for fewer services," Mr Ripper said.
Mr Buswell recently let the cat out of the bag when he explicitly supported the 'less with less' approach of the former Republican Governor of Massachusetts, William Weld.
The former Governor worked hand-in-glove with the Pioneer Institute to develop the 'less with less' campaign. Among other things, the Pioneer Institute endorses user pays public transport and outsourcing State education to the private sector.
"Mr Buswell's 'less with less' mantra has significantly sharpened the difference between the Carpenter Government and the Opposition," the Treasurer said.
"Labor stands for government that defends, protects and serves all Western Australians, including those in difficult circumstances and those who are vulnerable.
"We support tax cuts when they are affordable and believe they must always be balanced against the need to provide services and infrastructure.
"Mr Buswell's 'less with less' philosophy would particularly impact on people in regional WA, who without government services would struggle to find alternatives.
"The Deputy Leader of the Opposition has marked out a new position for the Opposition. The Opposition now stands for cutting services."
