CBH takes 50-year lease at Albany Port
25/9/06
A landmark lease agreement between CBH and the Albany Port Authority has secured a 50-year tenure at Albany Port for the grain handler, which is undertaking a major upgrade of its facilities.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said she had agreed to the lease as the grains industry had a vital role in the future development of the Great Southern and the port.
"Lease agreements of this length are rare for State-owned ports, but this decision justifies the $130million investment CBH has made in its facilities," Ms MacTiernan said.
"The upgraded grain handling facilities will significantly improve in-loading, out-loading and storage of grain for the entire Great Southern region.
"The Government was pleased to work with the grains industry to enable these improvements to take place.
"WA ports lead the way nationally in ensuring that freight is moved efficiently and that proper planning is in place for future growth."
The Minister congratulated CBH for its commitment to the Great Southern through such a substantial investment at the Albany Port.
