Childcare services in Karratha receive major boost
30/6/06
Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne Minister Jon Ford today presented funding of $792,000 to the Shire of Roebourne to assist with extensions to the Millars Well Day Care Centre.
Mr Ford said work on the day care centre extensions would commence later this year and the upgrade was expected to be completed by the end of 2007.
The Minister presented the funding to the acting shire president, Cr Rob Vitenbergs, at the official opening of the Roebourne multi-purpose recreational courts in Roebourne today.
"There is a strong demand for additional childcare services in the Pilbara and when completed, this project is estimated to provide an additional 83 full-time childcare placements in Karratha," Mr Ford said.
The funding for the day care centre comes from the State Government's Pilbara Fund, which is aimed at adding to the welfare of people in the Pilbara and making the region a better place in which to live and work.
It is intended that the fund will facilitate the social and economic development of the Pilbara through funding projects which will enhance the long-term sustainable future of the region.
The State Government funding is to help Pilbara communities meet the increased demand on existing infrastructure and services arising from the current period of unprecedented economic growth in the region.
