14/2/08
Construction of Kingston Primary School in Australind will begin immediately now that a builder has been chosen for the $12.2million project.
Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan announced Cimeco Group Ltd had been appointed to construct what would be a state-of-the-art primary school.
"Earthworks for the new Kingston Primary School began last December and we are now entering the next exciting stage," Mr McGowan said.
"When it opens at the start of next year, Kingston Primary School will initially cater for about 200 students from kindergarten to Year 7.
"This will ease the demand on nearby Parkfield Primary School and deal with the significant growth in Australind."
Collie-Wellington MLA Mick Murray said the new school would feature the latest in computer technology, including fibre optic cabling, a wireless network through all classrooms and high-speed internet access for every student and teacher.
"The school will also include 13 general classrooms, three early childhood classrooms, a music room, an arts and crafts room, a library resource centre, a canteen and covered assembly area, administration and staff facilities, hard courts and a reticulated oval," he said.
"It will be a fantastic asset for the community and I look forward to it opening at the beginning of 2009."
The Minister said the Carpenter Government was spending $1.41billion during the current term on school infrastructure projects across Western Australia.
"We are spending $1.41billion on new schools and upgrades to existing schools. Upgrades to existing schools and school maintenance during this term, and have built, planned and announced 65 news schools since coming to Government," he said.
Kingston Primary School is in addition to the new Manea College, Dalyellup College and Cape Naturaliste College in the fast-growing South-West.
In total, the Carpenter Government is spending more than $100million on new and improved school facilities in the Bunbury and Busselton areas.
