Culvert construction for North West Coastal Highway
20/7/07
A total of $3.25million has been awarded to build drainage structures on North West Coastal Highway, 10km south of Carnarvon in the Gascoyne region.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today announced that Works Infrastructure Pty Ltd had been awarded the contract, which would include road works on the highway.
"This work will see the construction of two large drainage structures, cement stabilisation, sealing and rock protection of six kilometres of North West Coastal Highway," Ms MacTiernan said.
"The work will improve road safety and traffic flows on the highway which is an important link to the North-West."
North West Coastal MLA Fred Riebeling welcomed the announcement saying the work would benefit all those who used North West Coastal Highway.
"This project will be of major benefit to the local community as it will reduce the impacts and maintenance costs associated with the flooding of the Gascoyne River," Mr Riebeling said.
The contract is scheduled to begin next month, with work estimated to be completed in November 2007. It will be managed by Main Roads Western Australia Gascoyne Region.
