Police Minister John Kobelke today officially opened a new $3million police station at Ellenbrook.
The station will have a significant impact of local policing, reducing response times and freeing-up police officers from the Midland station to concentrate on other areas in the East Metropolitan policing district.
"Ellenbrook will provide 16 more officers to one of the fastest growing regions of the State," Mr Kobelke said.
"I am pleased to see that alongside the police officers, a police cadet will be stationed at Ellenbrook. Revitalising the police cadet program is another innovative way the State Government and WA Police are using to attract people to serve the community as police officers.
"Already there are 360 more police officers above the attrition rate helping combat crime than when we came to Government."
Local Swan Hills MLA Jaye Radisich said it was important that police officers were stationed in Ellenbrook, a rapidly growing area.
"The Labor Government made a commitment to the Ellenbrook and broader Swan Valley that we would bring forward plans for a police station in Ellenbrook. We have delivered on that commitment," Ms Radisich said.
"The local officers at Ellenbrook are already getting to know the community so they can be as proactive as possible to delivery community safety outcomes."
Mr Kobelke said the State Government had committed $97million this financial year for capital works projects and much of this would go into new police complexes and stations.
"We are committed to ensuring community safety with more police, better equipment and modern facilities - this new station meets all those criteria," he said.
Mr Kobelke welcomed Ellenbrook station's Officer in Charge, Senior Sergeant Ivan Bennison and his police team that would serve Aveley, Avon Valley National Park, Baskerville, Belhus, Brigadoon, Bullsbrook, Ellenbrook, Henley Brook, Lexia, Melaleuca, Millendon, The Vines, Upper Swan, Walyunga National Park, Whiteman and Whiteman Park.
"The people who live here will be able to feel safe and secure with a new station and the excellent officers who will work from it," he said.
