First homeowners' grants and stamp duty relief benefits for Ellenbrook
22/3/06
Figures from the Office of State Revenue show Ellenbrook received more funding from the First Home Owner Grant (FHOG) scheme than any other suburb.
Housing and Works Minister Michelle Roberts said Ellenbrook homeowners also benefited from the State Government's decision to offer first homebuyers full or partial stamp duty relief.
"Office of State Revenue data shows 295 Ellenbrook homebuyers benefited from $2,065,000 in FHOG funding in 2005," Mrs Roberts said.
"The value of the Government's first homebuyer stamp duty concession for Ellenbrook residents totalled $785,000 from 199 purchases."
The figures coincide with the 5000th lot to be sold in the joint venture suburb - between the State Government and LWP Property Group.
Local member Jaye Radisich said Ellenbrook was noted as a suburb which was at the cutting edge of innovative design, offering exceptional surroundings and supplying an affordably-priced home.
"The ethos of Ellenbrook is underlined by the fact that our 5,000th new homebuyers - Gary and Rossana Bownes - are first-time homeowners," Ms Radisich said.
"There has been a very strong sense of community created at Ellenbrook.
"The construction of a new state-of-the-art police station and a secondary college with specialist science, design, technology and art facilities, shows that this Government continues to strongly support the infrastructure development in Ellenbrook.
"The State Government's hard work to ensure homebuyers, particularly first homeowners, receive as much support as possible has resulted in a tremendous start for this young couple."
Mrs Roberts said there had been more than 18,000 Western Australians who had received the FHOG in 2005, which totalled $127.4million in assistance.
Since 2003, when the FHOG was fully funded by the State Government, there have been almost 50,000 Western Australians buying their first home under the scheme.
