Premier Alan Carpenter has encouraged Albany residents to have their say on the construction of the Migrant Welcome Wall at a community consultation forum to be held in November.
Mr Carpenter said the forum would allow the community to discuss the location and design of the proposed wall, which would recognise the thousands of migrants who arrived in Western Australia via Albany Port.
"Having grown up in Albany, I am well aware of the region's rich history as the first place in the State to welcome migrants in 1826," he said.
"The wall will create a special meeting place which will act as a tribute to all migrants and their descendants, who can immortalise their heritage by registering their family's details.
"I hope that the Albany community will take this opportunity to become a part of this historic project to honour the contribution of early migrants to Albany."
The forum will be held in the City of Albany's William Finlay Function Room, North Road, Albany, on Thursday, November 16, at 4pm.
Albany MLA Peter Watson said the Welcome Walls project was originally designed to record the family names of thousands who arrived by sea through the Fremantle region.
Mr Watson said he was confident the Albany wall would also be a great success.
"I am certain that the project will be embraced by the many people in Albany who will take up this unique opportunity to honour their ancestors who arrived in Albany by ship to start a new life in this State," he said.
