Inner city living comes to Armadale

A 70-apartment inner city residential complex adjacent to the new Armadale train station is the latest building to be given approval as part of Armadale's transformation into a vibrant city centre.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister and Armadale MLA Alannah MacTiernan today said the development offered Armadale residents a more urban lifestyle.
"These high quality apartments are part of the State Government's efforts to create diversity of housing and more vibrancy in the Armadale town centre," Ms MacTiernan said.
"Residents will be able to enjoy the lifestyle of Armadale, yet still be able to walk to the train station in minutes and then catch the train to the Perth CBD in around just 30 minutes - beating traffic and saving money.
"It will also help to create more buzz and activity in the town centre."
The four and five storey mixed-use development, consisting of 70 residential apartments and three commercial units, will be constructed by property developer Australand. The residential complex will feature a roof garden, deck parking and a lift.
The Minister said that Australand had a wealth of experience in public transport focused development around Australia, including Discovery Point in New South Wales and the CBH Platform, Joondalup Centro and Metro Somerly in Perth.
The development is situated on an oblong-shaped lot fronting Green Avenue in the City Centre Railway Precinct. It backs on to the Perth-Armadale Railway Line and is adjacent to the proposed 'Station Square' and the Armadale Railway Station, and across the road from the City West redevelopment area.
Ms MacTiernan said Armadale Redevelopment Authority (ARA) awarded Australand the development rights following an Expression of Interest process conducted in March 2006.
"Since this time, Australand has worked closely with an ARA design panel to produce a suitable design for the site that meets the authority's particular inner city housing objectives," she said.
"Australand State General Manager Vincent Wee and his team have shown foresight in supporting this development, which is creating a new residential product in Armadale.
"This development also achieved 'best practice' rating under the ARA's sustainability audit, achieving six stars in First Rate Assessment.
"These apartments will contribute to the expected Armadale population growth from the current 55,000 residents to 117,00 residents over the next 15 years.
"The growth is contributing to the work being undertaken by the ARA to attract new residents, businesses and industry to the area, creating jobs and lifestyle opportunities.
"Australand will now test this development in the market and if there is sufficient interest, work will commence in early 2008."
