Lawn bowlers are big winners in Rockingham Waterfront Village upgrade
26/10/07
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today announced the completion of more than $100,000 worth of upgrades to the Rockingham Bowling Club.
The work was completed by Government agency LandCorp as part of its Rockingham Waterfront Village development, a project being undertaken in conjunction with the City of Rockingham.
Ms MacTiernan said LandCorp worked closely with the local bowling club - an integral component of the overall development - as part of its commitment to consulting local people and ensuring first-class facilities for all sections of the community.
"Rockingham Waterfront Village has not only provided a range of new residential opportunities, but has also improved the amenity of the area for the wider community," she said.
"This has been achieved through the creation of a Village Square and Village Green and upgrades to existing community infrastructure."
Rockingham MLA Mark McGowan said the improvements and provision of new facilities within the Rockingham Waterfront Village were delivering benefits to the entire community - young and old.
"The Rockingham Waterfront Village is a perfect example of the success that can be achieved when State and local governments work together for local community," Mr McGowan said
"The village and its associated upgrades are in line with the objectives of the Rockingham Kwinana Development Office, highlighting the huge array of benefits of living, working and enjoying recreational time in the region."
The rejuvenation of the Rockingham Bowling Club has included the extension and resurfacing of the car park, incorporating the addition of a new occasional access from the rear of the facility.
The club's Kent Street driveway has also been resurfaced and new lighting will be installed on the existing tower to improve night-time visibility and safety in the area. In addition, the old asbestos roof on the main shed has been removed and replaced with a new Colorbond roof.
The Rockingham Tennis Club has also benefited from the State Government's commitment to the area with the resurfaced car park and driveway, in addition to the establishment of a new parking area, immediately outside the clubhouse.
