Science and Innovation Minister Francis Logan has congratulated Perth-based pharmaceutical manufacturer, PharmAust Manufacturing, for winning the contract to produce two new sunscreen products for Perth-born model Megan Gale.
Manufacture of the Megan Gale Invisible Zinc Active and the Megan Gale Invisible Zinc Junior is already under way at PharmAust's new Welshpool facility, which was opened by Mr Logan in July.
Mr Logan said the contract was a great achievement for the Perth-based pharmaceutical manufacturer.
"PharmAust has advanced in leaps and bounds this year," he said.
"In March, the company was awarded an unconditional licence from the Therapeutic Goods Administration to manufacture medicinal product and now they have signed this lucrative contract.
"It is a major win for the company and is a reflection on how much the WA biotechnology industry has advanced as a player in the Australian pharmaceutical field.
"Megan Gale could have chosen anywhere in the world, but she has opted to have her new products made here in Perth."
PharmAust began with a staff of just four people in 2001, but has today grown to have four subsidiary companies - PharmAust Manufacturing, PharmAust Health, Mimotopes, and Epichem.
Today, PharmAust and its group of companies employ more than 65 people across the globe.
In Australia, the Megan Gale products will be sold through David Jones and major pharmacy chains.
In the United Kingdom, both formulations will be sold under Ganehill's ZO1 Invisible Zinc label, launched in 2005 and currently sold through Selfridges and Harrods.
