Lupin sausages on the menu for student inventors' convention

An idea to turn lupins into low fat, high protein sausages to tackle Australia's obesity crisis has earned two Cunderdin students a place at a prestigious national inventors' convention in Canberra.
Education and Training Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich congratulated Year 12 students Joel Innes and David Lewis, from the Western Australian College of Agriculture, for being selected to attend the Questacon Smart Moves Invention Convention (July 9-15).
Ms Ravlich said that during their studies at the college, Joel and David had shown an overwhelming interest in science and a flair for invention.
"Their idea to make sausages out of lupins is fantastic, because lupins are low in fat, high in dietary fibre and have significant health benefits," she said.
"The students are also making good use of a crop which is under-utilised as a human food source.
"I wish the students all the best as they workshop their unique sausage concept at the inventors' convention."
The Questacon Smart Moves Invention Convention brings together innovative and enterprising Australian secondary students for a week of workshops and seminars in Canberra.
Ms Ravlich said the boys' selection for the convention was further proof that the WA College of Agriculture was providing wonderful learning opportunities for students.
