A three-year project to refurbish the Midland Junction Lotteries House was celebrated with its official re-opening by Communities Minister Sue Ellery.
Work to upgrade the heritage-listed building was made possible by a $379,101 Lotterywest grant which was supplemented by a contribution from the City of Swan, as well as funds raised by the Midland Junction Lotteries House Committee.
Ms Ellery said the number of people who used the services within the building was a testimony to how important the Midland Junction Lotteries House had become.
"Since this heritage-listed building was erected in 1913 as the old Midland Post Office, it has been a focal point for the community," the Minister said.
"The work undertaken may have changed the face but it has also increased the capacity of the house to serve local residents.
"The refurbishment has extended the available office space, created three new offices inside the building and included a new security system."
Midland Junction Lotteries House was established in 1997 with the support of Lotterywest and building owners the City of Swan and is located in the same precinct as the Midland Library and Town Hall.
All tenants in the house are not-for-profit community organisations, including:

  • Domestic Violence Agencies Network;
  • Evangelical Soccer Association;
  • Koolkuna Domestic Violence Advocacy Service;
  • Kuljak Aboriginal Employment Centre;
  • Mission Australia - Personal Support Programme and Transition To Work;
  • Midlas;
  • People Learn Productions; and
  • Reconnect; and Conference Room Hire.
Ms Ellery said the project had been strongly supported by Midland MLA Michelle Roberts.
