Local Government Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich has welcomed the release of a major report into the future sustainability of local governments in Western Australia.

Local Government Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich has welcomed the release of a major report into the future sustainability of local governments in Western Australia.

The report 'The Journey:  Sustainability into the Future', prepared by the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA), sets out a vision for the local government sector in WA over the next 10 years.

"I congratulate WALGA for undertaking this analysis of local government as it exists at present, and for providing a range of forward looking and progressive recommendations," Ms Ravlich said.

Many of the recommendations would assist local government sustainability and enable it to work with other levels of government to deliver efficient and effective services to the community.

The Minister said she was keen to work with WALGA to attain those goals.

The report proposed a range of amendments to the Local Government Act to enhance accountability and compliance and to further promote efficient operation of local government.

"I am happy to work with WALGA to enhance local government sustainability and I will be sitting down with the association to further discuss and clarify their proposed amendments," Ms Ravlich said.
