The State Government has announced the name for Lynwood's newest primary school.
Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan today revealed the $13million facility would be called Bannister Creek Primary School, in recognition of its proximity to Bannister Creek Park in Lynwood.
"Bannister Creek Primary School is the new school that will be formed from the amalgamation of Ferndale, Kinlock and Lynwood Primary Schools," Mr McGowan said.
Southern River MLA Paul Andrews welcomed the new name and said it had been selected following a consultation process involving parents, Parents and Citizens' Associations and a survey.
"The new name reflects a new era in local public education," Mr Andrews said.
"Planning is already under way for the new, state-of-the-art school, which will be located on the existing Lynwood Primary School site in Purley Crescent."
Riverton MLA Tony McRae said the new school would cater for about 450 students from Kindergarten to Year Seven.
"Construction of Bannister Creek Primary is expected to be completed in 2009, and will have 13 classrooms, three early childhood classrooms and a 21st Century library resource centre," Mr McRae said.
"The new school will also include a covered assembly area and canteen as well as music and art/craft facilities, a dental therapy centre and administration and staff facilities.
"Fibre optic cabling and a wireless network in all classrooms will deliver world-class computer technology and high-speed internet access for all students."
The allocation of $13million to the new Bannister Creek Primary School comes on top of the $12million the State Government has invested in Lynwood, Willetton and Rossmoyne Senior High Schools over the past two years.
The Minister said the Carpenter Government was using the State's strong economy to provide better education facilities for all young Western Australians.
"At the last election, we promised to build 39 new schools worth $400million, spend $300million to upgrade existing schools and spend another $300million for school maintenance work," Mr McGowan said.
"We have already built, planned or announced 43 new schools."
