Planning will commence shortly on a state-of-the-art $13million school in Perth's southern suburbs.
Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan today announced the facility would replace Ferndale, Kinlock and Lynwood Primary Schools.
"The new school will be located on the existing Lynwood Primary School site and cater for 450 students from kindergarten to year seven," Mr McGowan said.
"It will have 13 classrooms, three early childhood education classrooms, a library/resource centre, a covered assembly area and canteen, music and art/craft facilities, a dental therapy centre, and administration and staff facilities.
"It will also feature the latest in computer technology, including fibre optic cabling, a wireless network throughout all classrooms, and high-speed Internet access for every student and teacher."
Riverton MLA Tony McRae and Southern River MLA Paul Andrews welcomed the State Government's announcement.
Mr McRae said representatives of the three schools would be involved in the planning process, which was expected to start after the appointment of an architect this term.
"I understand people will be sad about the closure of Kinlock and Ferndale Primary Schools, but I also know that everybody wants a world-class, 21st Century school for the area and this project will deliver that," Mr McRae said.
"These new works are in addition to the $12million the State Government has spent on Lynwood, Willetton and Rossmoyne Senior High Schools over the past two years."
Mr Andrews said the school was expected to be finished late in the fourth term of 2009.
"The Ferndale and Kinlock Primary School sites will then be sold to help fund the new school," Mr Andrews said.
Mr McGowan said the Carpenter Government was using the State's strong economy to provide better education facilities for all young Western Australians.
"At the last election, we promised to build 39 new schools worth $400million, spend $300million to upgrade existing schools and spend another $300million for school maintenance work.
"We have already built, planned or announced 41 new schools, including 30 new primary schools and 11 new secondary schools."
