Premier Alan Carpenter officially opened the new $7.6million Coolbellup Community School and Coolbellup Learning Centre today.
Mr Carpenter said the new campus, developed in close consultation with the community, replaced the North Lake, Coolbellup and Koorilla primary schools and Koorilla Education Support Centre.
The new school caters for 267 students from kindergarten to Year 7, while the learning centre has 21 education support students from Years 1 to 6.
The new school includes:

  • a two-storey teaching block with 15 general learning areas;
  • three early childhood education classrooms;
  • music and art rooms;
  • canteen and covered assembly area;
  • library resource centre;
  • hard courts and cricket nets;
  • administration block; and
  • an onsite dental therapy centre.
Students also have access to playing fields and tennis courts on Len Packham Reserve, thanks to an agreement with the City of Cockburn.
The Premier said the learning centre had a range of specialist facilities to meet the needs of students with disabilities, including a therapy room and specialised bathroom facilities.
Both the school and the learning centre have actively involved the community in a variety of programs, special activities and events, including the Breakfast Club and the Books for Babies program.
Mr Carpenter said the Carpenter Government was using the State's strong economy to provide better education facilities for young Western Australians.
"At the last election we promised to build 39 new schools worth $400million, spend $300million to upgrade existing schools and spend another $300million for school maintenance work," he said.
"We have already built, planned or announced 41 new schools, including 30 new primary schools and 11 new secondary schools."
