Students at Como Primary School are to benefit from a new $600,000 covered assembly area and canteen, expected to be completed in early 2009.
Making the announcement today, Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan said the new area would increase the scope of activities provided by the school.
"The new covered assembly area will allow students to enjoy a variety of drama, dance and physical activity programs with full protection from the weather," Mr McGowan said.
"The area will complement the existing school hall and provide an outstanding venue for whole-of-school events such as assemblies and graduation ceremonies."
South Metropolitan MLC Kate Doust said the upgrade was part of the State Government's commitment to provide better education facilities for all young Western Australians.
"We are in the process of building a world-class education system and that means giving students the best schools with the best facilities and resources to enhance learning," Ms Doust said.
Mr McGowan said Ms Doust and Federal Member for Swan Kim Wilkie had provided tireless support for the school community and worked hard to ensure Como Primary School remained a high-priority.
The Minister said the Carpenter Government was spending more than $1billion on school infrastructure projects across the State.
"We are spending $300million on upgrades, a further $300million on school maintenance, and have built, planned or announced 43 new schools, worth more than $400million," he said.
