Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan has officially opened $3.5million worth of new and upgraded school facilities in the Collie area.
Opening Collie Senior High School's $2.3million science upgrade today, Mr McGowan said the new facilities would further enhance the school's reputation for providing an excellent education.
"This upgrade has allowed Collie Senior High School to integrate Information and Communications Technology into each science classroom, which opens up a world of opportunities for students," he said.
"The new science office is a good space for teachers to prepare their lessons and programs, and the laboratory preparation and storage area has trebled in size."
The school's upgrade, which was designed by Kent Lyon Architects and built by CivilCon (WA) Pty Ltd, includes:

  • the refurbishment of three science laboratories, a lecture/seminar room, science preparatory areas, a textile room, and staff offices and stores;
  • a new science laboratory and machine room; and
  • upgraded fire services.
Collie-Wellington MLA Mick Murray said the new library and covered assembly area at Allanson Primary School, which cost $1.2million, were welcome additions to the school.
"The new library will provide a stimulating learning and teaching environment and a research hub for the whole school," Mr Murray said.
"The covered assembly area gives the school the flexibility to provide a range of programs and activities, as well as whole-of-school events, with full protection from the weather.
"The new and upgraded facilities at Collie Senior High School and Allanson Primary School are an enormous boost for the local community."
Collie Senior High School's students population is 597; Allanson Primary School has 127 students.
The Minister said the Carpenter Government was using the State's strong economy to provide better education facilities for all young Western Australians.
"We are spending more than $1billion on capital works projects at public schools across the State," Mr McGowan said.
"We are spending $300million on upgrades, a further $300million on school maintenance and we have built, planned or announced 43 new schools, worth more than $400million."
