New world of education and training opportunities for Esperance students
25/7/07
Esperance students now have a range of further education options and training courses on their doorstep thanks to the Esperance Community Education Campus.
Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan said a new agreement between education and training providers located on the campus would lead to more opportunities for students.
Esperance Senior High School, Esperance Education Support Centre, Esperance Residential College, Curtin Vocational Training and Education Centre (VTEC) and Curtin University Centre for Regional Education are all located on the campus.
"This is an exciting partnership which will provide students with a seamless transition when moving from primary school to secondary school to training and university," Mr McGowan said.
"Students now have the opportunity to undertake post-compulsory studies, vocational education and training studies, and further education courses in Esperance.
"This partnership also enhances Esperance Senior High School's strong vocational education and training program that has links with Curtin VTEC."
While at the campus, the Minister observed the shared use of facilities with Curtin VTEC apprentices using Esperance Senior High School for off-the-job training and opened a number of new and upgraded facilities including:
- the new $7.5million junior campus, which provides year eight and nine students with a dedicated space and includes 16 general learning areas, two specialist science-learning areas, four computing rooms, staff area and administration area, six tennis courts, netball and basketball courts and cricket practice nets;
- a $1.8million upgrade to the high school's north wing, which houses the design and technology area, visual arts and hospitality facilities; and
- the $1.9million Curtin VTEC administration and training facility on the Esperance Senior High School site, which includes an administration area, six new general learning areas and a computer lab.
"More than $17million has been spent on new and improved school facilities in the Esperance, Hopetoun and Ravensthorpe areas over the past four years," he said.
