Peter Beattie a huge contributor

Western Australian Premier Alan Carpenter said Peter Beattie's resignation as Premier of Queensland was a sad loss for Australian politics.
Mr Carpenter said Mr Beattie was a great communicator whose down to earth style gave Queensland strong leadership and economic direction.
"Peter Beattie's style was embraced by the public and his innovative policy agenda helped refashion the image of Queensland, taking it into the 21st century," he said.
"He was a brilliant salesman for Queensland.
"Mr Beattie was also a huge contributor to the national political agenda and I enjoyed the times I worked with him at the various Council of Australian Government and Premiers' conferences.
"I wish he and his family well for the future."
