A further 35km section of Muirs Highway near Rocky Gully will be rehabilitated.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan announced today that Southern Roads Services had been awarded a $2.6million contract to complete the work.
The project will rehabilitate and widen the seal of the road to 7.5m along the Highway, one kilometre west of Rocky Gully to five kilometres east of Forest Hills Road.

Ms MacTiernan said this would address safety concerns about the number of trucks currently using the road at this location.
"The proposed works are an extension of the 30km of shoulder reconstruction and seal widening completed early in 2006, directly to the west of Mt Barker and will improve safety by providing an increased width of road and clearance between opposing traffic," the Minister said.

She said the project would be funded from the 2006-07 Safer Roads Program and were part of a $21million funding commitment to upgrade Muirs Highway announced last year.
The Rocky Gully rehabilitation works are due to commence in January 2007 and are expected to be completed by the end of April 2007.
