The newly completed Roe Highway offers travellers and transport companies major travel time and cost savings says Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan.
"People using the Kwinana Freeway connection to Roe Highway can travel to Perth Airport in just 15 minutes and to the Swan Valley in 25 minutes," Ms MacTiernan said.
"The finishing of the last stage of the 34km Highway connects the State's rural highway system to the metropolitan freeway system and offers road users uninterrupted travel time under normal conditions.
"It provides a vital connecting link in the metropolitan regional road network between the national highway system in Perth's eastern corridor and strategic industrial areas including Forrestfield, Kewdale and Canning Vale.
"The route now connects Great Northern Highway, Toodyay Road, Great Eastern Highway, Brookton Highway, South Western Highway and Albany Highway to key destinations including Kwinana port, Jervoise Bay, Perth's airports and industrial areas at Kwinana, Canning Vale and Kewdale."
Ms MacTiernan said Roe Highway would significantly improve road safety through the provision of grade-separated dual carriageways, allowing freight vehicles in particular a dedicated transport route.
"The new Highway will also be instrumental in getting container trucks and heavy freight off Leach Highway between Orrong Road and the Kwinana Freeway," the Minister said.
She said transport operators and road users generally would have cheaper vehicle-running costs, because of reduced travel time and fewer 'stop-start' journeys due to the lack of traffic lights at major road intersections.
Travelling at the speed limit under normal traffic conditions, motorists could progress from the Kwinana Freeway connection with Roe Highway to the Roe Highway/Great Northern Highway intersection in 25 minutes:
Kwinana Freeway to South Street off ramp (4.3km - three minutes)

    • Willeri Drive (6.1km - four minutes)
    • Nicholson Road (9km - six minutes)
    • Kenwick Link (12.2km - eight minutes)
    • Orrong Road/Welshpool East Road (16.2km - 10 minutes)
    • Tonkin Highway intersection (18.4km - 12 minutes).
Approx. another three minutes for connection to Perth's airports from Tonkin Highway.
    • Kalamunda Road (24.6km - 17 minutes)
    • Great Eastern Highway intersection (30km - 21 minutes)
    • Great Northern Highway (34.5km - 25 minutes)
