School toilet facilities set for $915,000 upgrade
Students in six schools and colleges throughout regional Western Australia will enjoy new toilet and shower facilities totalling $915,000.
Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan said new toilet facilities at the WA College of Agriculture in Morawa worth $125,000 had recently been completed.
Mr McGowan said upgraded or replacement facilities would now be installed at Borden Primary School, Dampier Camp School, Frankland Primary School, Boulder Primary School and Jerdacuttup Primary School.
"The existing toilet facilities at these schools are outdated, in poor condition and very difficult to maintain," he said.
"Many of them are too far away from other school facilities and don't adequately serve the needs of students and staff.
"That is why repairing or replacing the facilities is a priority and we expect to have the upgrades to all six schools finished and ready for the start of the 2009 school year."
The specifications of the new facilities will be determined after consultation with the schools.
The Minister said the Carpenter Government was spending $1.41billion on new schools, upgrades to existing schools and school maintenance and had built, planned and announced 65 new schools since coming to Government in 2001.
