Southcare wins Lotterywest grant
16/01/07
Senior's Minister David Templeman today presented Manning-based aged care and community service agency Southcare Inc with a $490,000 Lotterywest grant.
Mr Templeman said the grant would be used to help build a new administration centre and gardening storage shed.
"Southcare provides a vital service to residents in the City of South Perth, including emergency relief, financial counselling, a low-cost food centre, Aboriginal family support, a day centre for frail aged and people with disabilities and Work for the Dole projects," the Minister said.
"The new administration centre will incorporate office areas, interview rooms, storage areas and a training/conference room.
"Southcare's staff and clients will greatly benefit from the new centre and storage shed because it will provide greater security, an improved work environment for staff and volunteers, an expansion of services and improved storage space for gardening and maintenance."
Mr Templeman said the organisation, established in 1982, sourced most of its funding from a range of Federal and State Government programs and fees for service activities.
In 2005-06, Southcare Inc employed 80 staff and 35 volunteers and provided services to more than 800 people.
