South-West Minister Mark McGowan has presented a cheque for $77,000 to the City of Bunbury today, as part of the State Government's $2million commitment to Bunbury's new library.
Mr McGowan said the library, which was currently under construction at ANZAC Park, would feature state-of-the-art technology and make a spectacular addition to the city.
"The new building will be classed as an electronic library and will not only provide books, but also access to online technology such as public PCs, the internet, wireless connection capacity and IT training," he said.
"It will feature double the previous library's floor space, have dedicated children's and seniors' spaces, an after-hours loan return area and a lounge and refreshment area overlooking ANZAC Park."
South West MLC Adele Farina said the birds that had been kept in an aviary in front of the old library were being looked after in temporary accommodation during construction of the new building.
"Those birds will also reside at the new facility once construction is complete," Ms Farina said.
Work on the electronic library is on schedule and almost 50 per cent complete, with the concrete footings, columns, block work, retaining wall, pre-laid plumbing, the floor slab and the elevator-well in place.
The library is expected to be completed in November next year.
