Police Minister John Kobelke said a pay deal signed today with WA Police specifically targets frontline officers to receive more money.
"The pay deal will give police officers a base pay rise of 4.5 per cent in the first year, plus four per cent in each of the next two years," Mr Kobelke said.
"It has taken considerable time to resolve this Enterprise Bargaining Agreement, because the State Government has been keen to ensure that frontline officers are the target for a higher pay increase.
"This is in line with what the public has called for, what the WA Police Union wants and what the State Government was committed to delivering."
The three-year agreement will increase frontline officers' pay through increases in rates for shift allowances, country incentives and other benefits.
The Minister said the pay deal recognised that officers had a difficult and dangerous job and that they deserved a pay rise, especially given their increased accountability and responsibility.
The total package under the deal is worth $189million over the three years.
Mr Kobelke said the improvements under the new EBA would go a long way to helping retain officers who were currently leaving WA Police for better pay in other jobs.
He thanked the WA Industrial Relations Commission for its help in directing both parties to continue to work on a settlement.
"I am pleased we have been able to do that and deliver a good pay rise to police officers," the Minister said.
