Education and Training Minister Mark McGowan today officially opened the new $8.3million Tapping Primary School.
Mr McGowan said the school's population had grown to 480 after starting in January with 398 students.
"Tapping Primary School is already highly regarded for the outstanding education it provides," he said.
"The school's motto, 'creating opportunities', reflects its commitment to providing the best possible teaching and learning environment for staff and students.
"The school has made good use of its strong community ties, excellent modern facilities and state-of-the-art technology to create innovative learning experiences which will challenge and inspire students for many years to come."
The school was designed by Oldfield Knott Architects and built by Universal Constructions and include:

  • administration and staff facilities;
  • 13 general classrooms;
  • three early childhood classrooms;
  • a library resource area;
  • specialist art/craft and music rooms;
  • a covered assembly area with canteen and sports store;
  • an oval; and
  • shared-use hard courts, developed in partnership with the City of Wanneroo, which include floodlighting and shelter.
Wanneroo MLA Dianne Guise said programs implemented by the school included the Power Pack fitness program for students and parents, regular lunchtime sporting activities which included the use of a giant chess set, and a comprehensive home reading program.
"The school also operates a weekly program for children up to four years old, which involves more than 60 families in a range of child-centred activities," Ms Guise said.
The Minister acknowledged the role of the wider community in developing the vision and the ethos of the school.
"There is no more important part of a community than the local school and it is clear that strong partnerships have already been built in Tapping that will foster lifelong learning," Mr McGowan said.
"The Carpenter Government is using the State's strong economy to provide better education facilities for all young Western Australians.
"At the last election we promised to build 39 new schools worth $400million, spend $300million to upgrade existing schools and spend another $300million for school maintenance work. We have already built, planned or announced 43 new schools."
