Premier Alan Carpenter has expressed deep sadness at the passing overnight of Kim Beazley Senior - describing him as a Western Australian political legend.
Mr Carpenter said that Mr Beazley made a massive contribution to Australian public life.
"Kim Beazley Senior was universally respected and admired across the nation," Mr Carpenter said.
"He was a brilliant man who never stopped thinking of new ways of doing things.
"As Federal Education Minister in the Whitlam Government he introduced reforms that transformed the nation's education system for the better.
"Mr Beazley was also a legend in the WA Labor Party.
"He was for many years the only bright light from WA in the Federal arena and he fought hard for our interests.
"On behalf of all Western Australians, I pass on my deepest sympathy to Betty, Kim Junior, Merrilyn and all his family and friends."
